I was born in Japan in 1984.　My father’s work took us to the U.S. (Washington State) when I was in the first grade and for the next 12 years, we lived in the small town of Anacortes, about a 2-hour drive north of Seattle. After graduating from high school, I became a husky at the University of Washington.

私は、1984年に日本で生まれ、小学1年生の時に親の仕事の関係でアメリカのワシントン州に移住しました。スターバックスやマリナーズで有名なシアトルから車で2時間ほど北にあるアナコーテスという田舎街で思春期を過ごし、高校を卒業後、シアトルに引っ越しワシントン大学でビジネスを勉強しました。

Being as Americanized as I was having spent 16 years of my young life in the states, I honestly never thought I would go back and live in Japan. But after graduating from university, I was lost and confused about what I wanted to do. That’s when my dad suggested I go back to find my roots. And that I did.

小中高、そして大学もアメリカで卒業し、思いっきりアメリカナイズされていた私は、将来日本に住むなんて思ってもいませんでした。でも、私が大学を卒業してその後のキャリアに悩んでいた時に父親が日本に戻ってみたらと私に提案したんです。その一言をきっかけに日本へ帰国。

In Japan, I ended up finding a job at a management consulting firm and officially started my new life in Tokyo after 16 years of living overseas. And how I became a YouTuber from that is a long story so I’m going to skip it for now, but before I knew it, I had quit my job at the firm to do YouTube full time.

帰国後、東京で経営コンサルティングの会社に就職し、16年ぶりに日本で本格的に暮らすことに。そこからどうやってYouTuberになったのかは、長くなるので割愛しますが（笑）、「気づいたら会社を辞めていました」（YouTube 好きなことで生きていく キャンペーンよりw）。

A lot of people ask me if I was scared to make the jump, but I wasn’t scared at all, I was thrilled! I mean, I wanted to quit since new-hire training and I finally found something that was worth the risk!

よく「不安じゃなかったですか？？」と聞かれるのですが、研修当時から辞めたいと思っていたのでワクワクしかなかったですw

It’s been 6 years since and I’m in my 9th year as a creator on YouTube. Having been doing this for almost a decade, naturally, I’ve gone through a few life stages. In  2015, I got married to Osaru-san (i.e. Mr. Monkey because he appears in my videos wearing a monkey mask - he’s shy), and in 2018 we had our first child, our daughter “Pudding” (her online nickname btw).

それから6年経ち、YouTubeを始めてから9年目に入りました。これだけ長くやっていると自然と自分のライフステージも変わり、発信する内容も変わってきます。2015年には最近動画によく出演する夫の「おさるさん」と結婚し、2018年には娘のプリンが生まれました。ちなみに、おさるさんがサルのお面を被っていることにはなんの深い理由も意味もありません。結婚発表後、ライブ配信で夫が皆さんに挨拶をする際に家にあったサルのお面を被って出てきただけですw

I’ve shared over 800 videos on my YouTube channel. I started out with a simple English lesson on articles “a” and “the,” and from there I started to challenge myself creatively - always asking myself how do I make the learning process fun and enjoyable?

​

これまで800本以上の動画をYouTubeでシェアしてきたのですが、aとtheを淡々と説明する簡単な英会話レッスンから始まり、編集する過程でどうやったら英語に楽しく触れてもらえるのかな？と工夫するようになりました。

​

​

I’ve dressed up like Taylor Swift wearing a blonde wig and bright red lipstick to do an English lesson using her lyrics. I’ve also dressed up as famous characters from a kid’s anime, translating and singing the theme song in English. I also have a series where I play multiple characters with a fun storyline. My focus on keeping things  “fun” has resulted in a channel with a whole variety of entertaining (I think lol )videos for English learners.

ブロンドのウィグを被ってTaylor Swiftを歌ってみたり、妖怪ウォッチのキャラクターを手作りのお面や着ぐるみで再現して妖怪体操の歌詞を英語に替えて歌ってみたり、一人で四人役を演技するドラマ仕立てのシリーズまで。

「楽しむ」を中心に動画作りに取り組んでいたらものすごいバラエティ豊富なチャンネルになっていました。

A few years ago, I fell in love with documenting my travels. And my viewers love the travel videos because they can experience another culture as well as watch real-life English conversations through my encounters.

数年前から旅動画に「ちか旅」というシリーズを始めたのですが、旅動画は観てくださっているみなさんにも海外でのリアルな英会話を見れる！新しい発見が沢山ある！と、今はバイリンガール英会話の人気コンテンツのひとつです。

​

​

In 2017, my husband and I decided to take a road trip across the United States taking a month to drive from New York to Los Angeles. We vlogged our entire trip with daily videos and even released a book about our journey. This year, we’ve lounged project NOMAD, living in a different country three months at a time. We just got back from our first destination, Melbourne Australia. (Oh, that’s a book now too!)

 

 

2017年には、夫と二人でアメリカのニューヨークからロサンゼルスまで車で横断し、その様子を毎日動画でアップし、書籍も出版させていただきました。今年は娘を連れて3人で色んな国に3ヶ月単位で住んでみるプチ移住計画を始め、早速メルボルンにプチ移住してみました。（こちらも本になっています 笑）

With the decision to live around the world for the next few years, my husband, who was born and raised in Japan and has very little confidence in his English, has begun seriously studying. We’ve launched a series called  “Osaru English” to share his learning process. 

 

​

国を転々とするノマドライフを送るに当たって、英語が苦手な夫も英語に真剣に向き合うようになり、彼の英語力アップを目的とした「おさるenglish」というシリーズも最近始まりました。

​

​

One of my mottos in life is “do what you love,” but I don’t actually have any long-term plans or goals. I just have a ton of things I want to do now and being true to the little desires and sparks of inspiration in my everyday life has taken me further in life than I ever thought I would reach.

​

​

数年前にYouTubeの好きなことで生きていくキャンペーンに参加させて頂いたのですが、Do what you loveがまさに私のポリシーです。長期的な計画や大きな目標とかは実はなくて、毎日思い浮かぶ「これやってみたい！」「あれやってみたい！」を次々と形にしていったら、自分が思ってもいなかったところにたどり着いていました。

​

People often ask me where I see myself in 5 years to 10 years. Honestly, I have no idea. But I'd like to continue challenging myself so that wherever I end up,

it’ll be far beyond what I could ever imagine now.

​

​

5年先、10年先には何をしていますか？と聞かれるのですが、自分が今想像もしていないところにたどり着いていることを目標に日々新しいことにチャレンジしていたいです。
